On 14 December 2025, during a Hanukkah celebration at Bondi Beach in Sydney attended by around 1,000 people, two attackers opened fire on the crowd from a footbridge overlooking the area. The attack began at approximately 6:42 pm, during which the gunmen used firearms and attempted to use explosives targeting civilians at the beach. 

A total of 16 people were killed (including one attacker) and around 40 people were injured, including civilians and police officers. The attack was eventually stopped when police responded and shot both attackers, while several bystanders also intervened during the incident. Emergency services arrived shortly after the shooting began, and the scene was secured following police intervention. This had a significant effecct on the Jewish community in Australia. The youngest victim was 10 years old.

In alignment with our team mission and values, we ran a social media campaign in solidarity with the victims of the attack. From existing demographics from our social media research, our stories amass the largest amount of views, therefore we posted stories with links to GoFundMe pages, which ran verified individual fundraisers for the victims of the attack. 

Multiple campaigns collectively raised over A$5 million (~RM14 million) across fundraisers within days, with tens of thousands of individual donations contributing to victims and recovery efforts. GoFundMe also coordinated a centralized hub of verified campaigns to improve trust and reduce misinformation, helping donors identify legitimate fundraisers Funds were used to support medical costs, recovery, family assistance, and immediate relief needs, providing flexible financial support to the victims.
