The Event
Due to heavy prolonged rainfall from the 19th to 25th of March, 2025, there was severe flooding caused in urban areas in southern Johor. The Malaysian Meteorological Department issues "severe" level continuous rain warnings for this period. Furthermore, this occored in the northwest monsoon season which lasts from November to March. The 2024-2025 monsoon season was notably intense, resulting in severe flooding across South East Asia.

The Effects
Over 5,000 people were evacuated to temporary relief centers as many businesses such as shops, and key infrastructure such as roads remained closed for weeks. Furthermore, thousands of homes were flooded to varying depths across the region. Key transport routes in Johor Bahru were disrupted leading to undisclosed economic losses.
Our Action
We took action by giving presentations to multiple classes in our school and by raising awareness of this issue, and we implemented a Malaysia National QR-based donation system linking to the Malaysian Red Cresent Society, who handled donations and ran rescue services in the region.

Our Impact
The Malaysian Red Crescent Society distributed key water filtration systems which severely reduced the risk of waterborne diseases among victims. In addition, MRCS equipment was used in rescue missions by volunteers and in collaboration with Jabatan Bomba and Angkatan Pertahanan Awam. This supooretd transporting vunerable people to evacuation centers and provide essentials for the victims of the floods.
